Daughters of Maguey (Las Hijas del Maguey) tells the story of women who, one day, decided to break a male monopoly. Despite their historical involvement in the production of agave distillates, archaic traditions and beliefs have kept women under yet another glass ceiling. But the Mujeres del Mezcal y Maguey de Mexico are now shattering it. Recognising their own value and the benefits of working together, these women have joined forces to ensure that Mexico’s producers and rural communities get their fair share of the economic boom that is mezcal, while preserving traditions and respecting the environment.
